The Planet

positive impact

The excellence of our products and our entire production cycle is due to an environmental sustainability policy built up over time. We are the mouthpiece for an industry able to limit consumption of natural resources and environmental impact, through the restoration of quarries’ landscape and vegetation, controlled waste management and the recycling of industrial wastewater.

Our commitment contributes to making the ceramics industry a closed production cycle, using energy sources and raw materials with greater awareness, favouring circular use of materials, recycling packaging and recovering waste and scraps.

We use aesthetics, technology and innovation to design the ceramic tiles people want. We design our new products keeping in mind new living trends and requirements to ensure the health and safety of those who manufacture them and those who use them.

Our commitment

in numbers

Our commitment for the environment is summed up in a single number which represents our ultimate sustainability goal: 100%.

More details
More details

Marazzi Group has assessed its products’ environmental impact throughout their life cycle, from extraction and processing of the raw materials through to the recycling of demolition spoil. The findings of this LCA (Life Cycle Assessment), performed in accordance with the ISO 14040 series international standards, have been published in the Environmental Product Declaration (ISO 14025 and EN 15804), contributing to the attainment of LEED
certification credits.

ISO 17889-1

In 2022 Marazzi Group became one of the first companies worldwide to achieve Certification under ISO 17889-1, the first international standard which assesses the sustainability of ceramic tiles by means of quantitative and qualitative criteria covering all three aspects of sustainability: environmental, social and economic.

Recycled material

Collection with a high content of recycled material, between 30 and 40% depending on the items. The series participates in obtaining LEED® credits in the Materials and Resources category.

Leed Credit

The voluntary LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification is the most widely used international protocol for green building and sustainable design promoted by the U.S Green Building Council. The LEED® rating system is structured in 9 categories, each of which is organized into mandatory prerequisites and credits determined by the characteristics of the project.

All Marazzi ceramic and porcelain stoneware products, thanks to the ecological quality of the entire industrial production cycle, contribute to obtaining LEED® credits for buildings, in particular, for the thematic areas relating to Materials and Resources (MR), Sustainable Site (SS) and Internal Environmental Quality (EQ).

GREENGUARD GOLD Certification ensures that a product has met some of the world's most rigorous and comprehensive standards for low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into indoor air. For further information:

Marazzi Group S.r.l.

The NSF Food Equipment certification programme has 22 different standards that set minimum food hygiene and protection requirements for the materials, design, manufacturing, construction and performance of equipment for handling and processing food. The materials for solid surfaces are examined based on the “NSF/ANSI 51: Food Equipment Materials” standard, which specifies the public health requirements for materials used in the construction of commercial food equipment.

French QB UPEC certification provides the user with a quality guarantee: it confirms that the products delivered, marked with the QB and UPEC logos, comply with the prerequisites of the NF EN 14411 standard in accordance with the current certification rules and that they have the performance characteristics specified in the CSTB (Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment - Scientific and Technical Centre for Building) “Technical Specifications for the UPEC Classification of Ceramic Floor Coverings”. The four letters refer to:

U: resistance to foot traffic wear
P: mechanical resistance to the shifting of movable and fixed objects
E: resistance to water
C: resistance to commonly used chemicals

Declare Label

Declare is a voluntary self-declaration programme that aims to steer the building materials industry towards healthier, more eco-friendly products through transparent ingredient disclosure.

Marazzi Group’s self-declared products are classified as “Red List Free”, i.e. they do not contain any ingredients on the Living Building Challenge “Red List”:

• no chemicals that pollute the environment
• no chemicals that bio-accumulate up the food chain until they reach toxic concentrations
• no chemicals that harm construction and factory workers

Marazzi Group manufactures its products using raw materials of natural origin, such as clays, feldspars, sands and inorganic pigments. To guarantee transparency of information, the Company publishes an HPD (Health Product Declaration), a selfdeclaration on the chemical composition of the product, which allows users to assess the degree and type of hazard associated with individual components of construction products. The HPD is recognised within the LEED credits system.

Issued in 2017 by the Ministry of the Environment, the "Minimum Environmental Criteria for interior furnishings, construction and textile products" are a regulation that defines the rules for managing renovation and new construction contracts of the Public Administration in Italy, with the aim of encouraging the design and construction of buildings with a reduced environmental impact. The declaration of conformity to the Marazzi Group CAMs is available in the EPD of the Italian plants.

CCC certification, introduced in 2002, is applicable to all products imported into and manufactured in china for sale on the Chinese market. The information specified by CCC certification generally concerns health and safety and, regarding ceramic tiles in particular, specifically refers only to tiles in porcelain stoneware with absorption equal to or lower than 0.5%. The certification is issued by bodies specially accredited by the Chinese authorities, which are all based in China.
