Hexagonal cement tiles and wood-effect stoneware in a historic Irish pub

120 years after it was opened, Ireland's historic Morrison’s pub renews its interior and chooses the warmth and personality of Ragno's Rewind, Concept and Woodessence collections.

When we imagine entering a typical Irish pub, what comes to mind is precisely the interior of Morrison’s Bar & Kitchen, a historic family-run pub opened in Limerick in 1896. A dimly lit interior, dark wood with clearly visible knots, a smell of beer and comfortable chairs to sit on while savouring traditional Irish fare.

In 2016, 120 years after its foundation, Morrison’s interiors were refurbished by interior designer Tess Stanford, who chose to underline the pub's vintage soul with the aid of Ceramiche Ragno coverings: the wood-effect stoneware on the floor is Woodessence, installed here in a herringbone pattern to emphasise the shapes of the rooms and add interest to the largest areas. The Beige shade for almost all the flooring is completed by a number of darker (Brown) planks - all in the 10 x 70 size - defining the area in front of the bar. In this case, the wood-effect makes a magnificent combination with the wood of the furnishings chosen for the pub's interior.

The Woodessence stoneware is installed perfectly interlocking with the cement tiles from the Rewind collection, which set the character of some sections of the interior and also clad the sides of the bar, on which the pub's logo is printed. Vintage prints, upholstery and accessories complete and give intimacy to the atmosphere, together with retro-style chairs and bar tables, for a very homely, welcoming mood.

One final collection decorates a much more intimate area of Morrison’s: Concept15x60 cm, inspired by time-worn tapestries, which covers and identifies the walls of the section where bar food, to be eaten quickly, seated on stools, is served.

A mix of styles and decorations to bring out the best in the interior of a pub that merges Irish tradition and culture, warming the atmosphere and giving it amodern character still inspired by the past of a family that has been serving good cheer and excellent local food for 120 years.
